Dya

I was watching Paul van Dyk's music video for Another Way. It made me think of the ordinary day and how much I want to just walk into a white gallery with photos hanging up and shop at a grocery store. I even did laundry today and it wasn't bad. I don't really understand my obsession with doing something other than what I'm doing. ("you mustn't like what you are doing then" go away)
Anyways time for a new perspective on things. "I won't settle"

Todd

We had a guest speaker in health class last year. So we had a questionnaire that we filled out and showed to noone.

1) List the physical things you like about yourself:
mole on left buttocks, mustache (incomplete), my nearsighted eyes.

2) List things you like about your personality:
loud, incompetent, no sense of personal space, jumpy.

3) How do you expect others to treat you:
how I tell them  which is really how they want.

4) List a few boundaries:
general - I'm open to anything general baby.
sexual - don't cross the drawn line.

5) interests:
JFK assassination conspiracies, libertarianism circa 1776.

6) Goals:
short - hook up with this girl on world of whore/warcraft (I'm not sure which is worse).
long - lay with Conan in bed.

glue

I've had 3 hours of pre-cal homework the past three days, which is really frustrating but I've bitched about it enough so. Pretty much all there is to report on.   I just got my picture taken for the yearbook. I thought we were past that but apparently not. Nah, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I changed shirts, went downstairs to smitty (game room-esque room downstairs) walked right in (no line) told the workers standing around talking to each other my name and one of them took my envelope and told me where to sit then took my picture, and that was it. Took all of two minutes. Fuck the internet here! My friend just messaged me on xfire and now the messages aren't going through.
but when they did:
"[15:13] [dbp]drunkcow[dfm]: I think my internet is being extremely slot"
"[15:13] [dbp]drunkcow[dfm]: slow*"
"[15:13] [dbp]Jaedpact: I like slot better"
There's some sort of dance tonight at 8 down in the mac, not sure what's going on with all that but I'll check it out. I signed up to get info on the Filmmakers Guild of North Texas. So hopefully that club actually has something going for it. On that note I'm going to work on my script. Hopefully everything I have written will get transferred to the computer by the end of today.
edit: My friend just called me and we are going to watch a movie tonight in the TV room. I'm excited, it's been way to long since I've watched a movie (like a week and a half haha but it was jeepers creepers so that doesn't really count). I imagine the dance will have lame music and everything else so I'll go for a bit then probably watch a movie. We'll see.

Almost Had Virtual Reality But I Hit The TV Too Hard

I just noticed I haven't said anything about QuakeCon 2008. How could I get a press badge and not say anything on here about it??? There'll be an update about QuakeCon 2008 soon.

I have quickly realized I need to exercise and get plenty of sleep. The past couple of nights I've had either aching muscles or a headache, just my brain saying too much went on that day I need time to process, or both (as is the case right now and I already took pain reliever for it 3 hours ago when it was bothering me then, but... it's back). And classes haven't even started. Already I have met like 10 interesting people I could easily spend many nights talking to. And this is part of the reason I'm here, the experience itself. It's the best thing ever to go from having literally no more than 5 people I could have an indepth conversation with at my high school to what seems so far to be an endless supply of interesting people with different ways of doing things and a similar interest or two. Going into TAMS I didn't feel at home at home or at home here either. I was in limbo. Things started going that way the last 6 weeks of high school and the feeling kept getting stronger leading up to now. I'm not at home yet but getting there. Give me a couple of weeks and I'll be kicking ass and taking names in no time (figuratively speaking).
There appears to be two ways to go about a career right now. I could play the system by say becoming a doctor, which gives me quite a bit of security. The hours I put into school would most likely land me a well paying job. Or I could attempt something creative which doesn't guarantee anything and relies on what seems like a lot of luck. It's a struggle between doing something that solves problems to help humanity, and doing something that indulges one or more of the senses, being an artist, musician, director, etc. Both an artist and a mathematician solve problems. Both have their place in the world and without scientists, computer scientists, math majors, and the like, and without artisan humanity wouldn't be where it is today. This is why I am ultimately at TAMS, to figure out what I'm going to do the best way I know how.
Along with the core classes of Pre-CAL, Biology, Chemistry, and English I have a few exploratory endeavors. I have a list of things to get done as soon as my core class obligations are out of the way (that is on a day to day basis. So when my homework/study time is done and all that).

  • Go to and check out the gym. See if I can talk to a personal trainer (I need to find a way to increase my cardiovascular fitness so I can actually run for longer than 10 minutes without suffocating; I haven't ran in a couple of months and need a good way to build back up)
  • Go to the library and:
    • See about borrowing CDs.
      • Find books to help me research:
      • a) The Kennedy family
      • b) Malcolm X
      • c) How our founding fathers got others to pay for more expensive items that weren't from Britain and therefore not taxed.
      • d) The biography of André Gide
      • e) Marketing Psychology (if such a thing exists)
  • Talk to Dr. Sayler of the College of Education about resources for learning about psychology

I had a lot going through my head earlier but I'm too tired to process it all and put it down on 'paper' now. Time to check out the mac (downstairs lobby-esque/living room area that serves as a good hangout spot) for a few minutes then get some sleep. More tomorrow.

In The Interest of Anything and Everything

First things first, I added ASHES dIVIDE, Great Lake Swimmers, Marilyn Manson, and Paul Simon to the music section.

I am now moved into my dorm (McConnell Hall) at UNT for the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (TAMS for short and to sound less pretentious). It's probably a safe assumption anyone that has found this site knows what it is because they know me but in the event you have no idea what TAMS is and don't know how to click on the link... TAMS is a school of roughly 200 juniors and 200 seniors who would normally be in high school respectively but are instead taking college courses at the University of North Texas with full access to UNT classes, professors, and other resources. By the end of what would be your senior year in high school you will have had 60+ hours of college credit along with a high school diploma just for kicks. More updates later (hopefully soon) on "the experience" or something, I'll keep it interesting otherwise this will just be a blog and a waste of time. Classes start tomorrow.

Two

I added two quotes to the quotes section.

quote 8
Interview by Ryan Wasoba of Riverfront Times
Do you think that you would like your band if you weren't in it?
-
I think I would. I hope I would. Yeah, I definitely would. I mean, of course because I've always wanted to do exactly what I want to hear. It's like how everybody's their own radio station. You choose what you play and listen to. And when I'm around the house I have my own radio on, which means I'm putting different records on the stereo. And once in a while, because of that, I get a little itchy and sit down and play guitar myself and get into my own thing for an hour or two and then listen to somebody else's music again. And it's not like I'm trying to do everything I ever like, because there's some things that are out of our range. I mean, we're not Motorhead.

I think that makes sense with your band, it seems like that's what Nada Surf is, is just good songs. And you have your stylistic things that you prefer to do but it's not like ''Oh, THAT sounds like Nada Surf.''
-
Totally. In fact, it sometimes surprises me when someone says that we have a sound at all. If we do, I'm not really conscious of what it is.

—Matthew Caws of Nada Surf

Since the first time I heard Nada Surf they have been one of my favorite bands. Matthew Caws puts it perfectly. Nada Surf doesn't have a high or low pitch vocalist, bizarre lyrics, an exotic or extreme live show, 20 musicians (there are only 3), or anything else "weird" that separates them from other rock artists. Instead Nada Surf goes beyond radio sludge by being something more note worthy, a straight forward rock band with a straight forward kick ass sound. It can be argued Nada Surf has recently taken on a more indie sound, and I wouldn't disagree, but they still have a great pureness about them. Visit their website, click on media, and check them out for yourself: nadasurf.com.

And added Gus Van Sant commenting on his film Gerry. quote 9

MySpace With Its Lustful Links

Why is it that you can click on the picture to get to someone's MySpace profile? Should not you only be able to go to a user's profile by clicking the name by which they are called by? MySpace is only making it easier for horny teenagers and nasty old sexual predator men to get to a child's pics. After all, it is not the profile they are after when clicking that image.

An example:

mspace example

This person had something important to say and it is obvious your son or daughter wants to send this user a message congratulating them on a wonderful comment. But your valued child clicks on the image to get to the user's profile instead of the name doesn't he! How can MySpace get away with turning our American youth into ravaging monsters! The policy must be changed and the code rewritten. No longer should one be able to click on an image to get to a profile. I urge you to contact your congressman, and MySpace, and tell them to end this degrading act NOW!

To The Mother Fucking Point

I have cleared out the News section by moving the old stuff to the News Archive (click the "old news" link at the bottom of this page) which I just updated. I figured it's the middle of summer so why not have a fresh start.

-Updates to the movies section:

Now you can click on a movie title and link directly to that movie (just like the bands).

Immagine in Cornice; Eddie Vedder playing during Corduroy.

-Updates to the music section: Sometime I'll add a myspace link to the bands so it's easier to sample their stuff.
